The court arrested another representative of a warehouse company that sold alcohol-containing products withdrawn from circulation in the Leningrad region. This was announced on October 1 by the press service of the prosecutor's office.

"The prosecutor supported the request of the investigative body to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to another defendant in the criminal case of trafficking in a surrogate, a 51-year—old resident of the Leningrad region," the publication says.

The joint press service of the city courts added that Igor Sofronov was the suspect. It is noted that he was detained on September 29, and the next day, on September 30, he was charged. According to the agency, the man will stay in jail until November 25. The defense requested that Sofronov be placed under house arrest.

On the same day, two more representatives of the warehouse company, Vladimir Savchenko and Alexey Illarionov, were taken into custody. It is noted that Savchenko was charged under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements").

Mass alcohol poisoning in the Slantsevsky district in the Leningrad region was reported on September 26. On September 30, a source told Izvestia that the death toll from counterfeit alcohol had increased to 38 people.

A criminal case was opened into the incident under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence"). Later, the regional prosecutor's office announced the arrest of eight people involved in the sale of surrogate alcohol.

As noted by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk, the source of counterfeit alcohol, which led to the deaths of people in the Leningrad region, was a commercial organization from the Tosnensky district.
