China welcomes Putin-Trump dialogue to resolve conflict in Ukraine

In light of the conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, China welcomes all efforts leading to a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated on March 19 by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, noting that dialogue between the parties is a necessary step to resolve the conflict peacefully.
"From the very beginning, China has advocated resolving the crisis through dialogue and negotiations. We welcome all efforts leading to a ceasefire, and we believe that this is a necessary step to achieve peace," Mao Ning said at a briefing, as quoted by TASS.
The telephone conversation between the President of the Russian Federation and the American leader Donald Trump took place the day before. During the talks, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and discussed a wide range of areas in which the United States and Russia could cooperate.
British analyst Alexander Mercuris said on the same day that only Russia and the United States can end the conflict in Ukraine. He stressed that it was Moscow and Washington that would become key participants in negotiations to resolve the situation.
