WP found out about a possible attempt by Netanyahu to convince Trump to strike Iran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a meeting with US President Donald Trump on Monday, December 29, will try to get Washington's permission to strike Iran's missile sites. This was reported on December 29 by The Washington Post (WP), citing sources.

"Netanyahu wants to discuss, in Israel's opinion, the dangerous expansion of Iran's ballistic missile capabilities, as well as the possibility of new joint strikes by Israel and the United States," the publication says.

According to the newspaper's sources, Netanyahu also intends to get Trump to take a tougher stance on the Gaza Strip and demand that the Hamas movement completely disarm before the withdrawal of Israeli troops as part of the second stage of the US peace plan.

At the same time, the Trump administration, as the newspaper notes, has launched a new attempt at negotiations with Tehran and, above all, wants to see the implementation of the agreements already reached. Dan Dyker, president of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs think tank, called the upcoming summit of the two leaders an emergency.

On December 22, Netanyahu announced his readiness to give a "tough response" to Iran in case of actions against Israel. The politician added that his country had achieved significant success during the twelve-day conflict with Iran in the summer of 2025.

NBC News reported on December 20 that Netanyahu plans to discuss new actions regarding Iran with Trump. It was clarified that Israeli officials expressed concern about Iran's restoration of uranium enrichment facilities.

Later, on December 22, Israel warned the United States that Iran was preparing for a possible strike under the guise of missile exercises by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). It is clarified that the chief of the Israeli General Staff, Eyal Zamir, called the head of the US Central Command, Brad Cooper, on Saturday, December 20, and said that the Israeli side was concerned about the IRGC missile exercises.
