The United States may demand that French President Emmanuel Macron change his rhetoric. This opinion was shared by Alexander Konkov, Associate professor of the Department of Political Science at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in an interview with Izvestia on May 14.

According to him, the French leader gives the floor easily enough, and then takes it back.

"In this regard, Macron is absolutely inconsistent, absolutely irresponsible and such a populist leader of the country, who relies less on solving the problem and more on increasing information points in the media environment," the political scientist emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that the EU's rhetoric regarding the conflict in Ukraine has changed recently and has become softer.

"The United States can demand from Macron that he make judgments that will lead to a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis and will not strongly contrast with the efforts undertaken by the administration of US President Donald Trump. It is quite obvious that Macron's previous rhetoric was divorced from reality, so today he is required not to interfere," Konkov said.

Sergey Fedorov, a leading researcher at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia, noted logical inconsistencies in Macron's words in an interview with TF1 TV channel. So, the French leader said that Ukraine would not join NATO, and allegedly in this regard, units of the alliance's military personnel should be deployed in the country.

"And what is the difference between NATO and the military contingent that the EU wants to introduce into Ukraine? This is the same NATO. It is unclear who Macron's theses are aimed at," he concluded.

On May 13, Macron, in an interview with the French TV channel TF1, said that Ukrainians were aware of the impossibility of returning to the borders of 2014. At the same time, he pointed out that negotiations on the settlement of the conflict would contribute to resolving territorial issues.

In the same interview, the French leader noted that he was supposedly ready for talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but only after the ceasefire in Ukraine. At the same time, Macron allowed the adoption of new sanctions against Russia by the European Union and the United States in the coming days.

On May 12, Sebastian Chenu, a deputy of the French National Assembly party, a member of the People's Union party, said that the French president does not advocate peaceful initiatives to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. According to him, Macron is obsessed with the idea of sending troops to Ukraine, although Paris should help Moscow and Kiev get around the negotiating table.
