- The United States has withdrawn troops from the Al-Omar and Konoko oil fields in eastern Syria.
The United States has withdrawn troops from the Al-Omar and Konoko oil fields in the province of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. This was reported by Al Arabiya on Saturday, May 3.
"On Friday, American troops left the oil fields using dozens of trucks that arrived from Iraqi Kurdistan. The trucks transported military equipment, heavy weapons and were escorted by the Office of Civil Affairs of the International Coalition," the article says.
The American troops withdrew all their soldiers from the Konoko and Omar ranges. There are only about 50 soldiers and officers left on the last one. These two bases are among the largest U.S. bases in eastern Syria, the newspaper said.
Earlier, on May 1, the United States held talks with representatives of the new Syrian authorities in New York. The details of the negotiations, as well as the topics discussed, were not disclosed in the statement.
On April 18, the Pentagon confirmed a reduction in the number of US troops in Syria to less than 1,000 in the coming months. In a statement, the US Department of Defense noted that over the past 10 years, the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS (IS, an organization recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) has achieved significant success.
