- The political scientist called Trump's words about the first 100 days of his presidency an exaggeration.
The words of US President Donald Trump about the results of the first 100 days are an exaggeration. Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the RAS Center for Security Studies and an American political scientist, told Izvestia on April 20.
The day before, Trump, assessing the 100 days since his inauguration, said that under his leadership, the United States had achieved the most ambitious changes in almost a century.
According to the political scientist, it is impossible to achieve such results in just 3 months in power. They cannot be called "the largest in a century," the expert added.
"In three months, it is possible, in fact, to work out the outlines of future actions. Relatively speaking, create a plan. This sounds good from the point of view of journalism, but it's still difficult to talk about economic and political trends. This is not only in the United States, but in any country in general," Blokhin said.
The political scientist recalled that in foreign policy, Trump is trying to get out of the Ukrainian conflict with "saving face."
"The second track, which is also global and large-scale, is to strengthen the efficiency and competitiveness of the American economy. And now, in the context of this direction, it is necessary to consider the fight against this bureaucratization of the nomenclature, the purging of USAID and other organizations," Blokhin stressed.
Trump is also trying to move away from the neoliberal agenda, which included, in particular, LGBT propaganda (the movement is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) and the promotion of the green agenda, he added.
In addition, according to the expert, a serious trade deficit has formed in the United States due to Trump's tariff policy. With its help, the American president is trying to restrain his geopolitical competitors, primarily China.
In addition, Blokhin also commented on Trump's desire to gain control over the Panama Canal, Greenland and Canada.
"I would call the fourth point a more ambitious, new version of the Monroe doctrine in a Trumpian way. If we look at the list of victims that Trump named, <...> it's the entire western hemisphere. That is, the entire western hemisphere should be, relatively speaking, under the control of the United States," he concluded.
On April 26, The New York Times (NYT) published a joint poll with Siena College, according to which the president's approval rating is only 42%. At the same time, 54% of respondents said that Trump "exceeds his authority." According to voters, the American leader does not understand the problems of their daily lives.
On April 22, Reuters and Ipsos also asked the public to evaluate the American leader's policy. The survey results show that three quarters of Americans believe that the US president should not run for a third term.
On January 20, the day of the inauguration, Trump announced the beginning of the "golden age of America." The American leader noted that his return to the White House would put an end to the period of crisis and mark the beginning of a new era of national success.
