During the debate, Artyom Missyura, accused of murdering his grandmother and childhood friend, as well as the attempted murder of seven other people, including his family, as well as fraud, asked not to be given a life sentence. This was reported on July 8 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

During the court interrogation, Missyura confirmed that he carried the girl out of the apartment in his arms when she was poisoned. In this episode, he stated that he was remorseful and apologized to her.

The defendant also fully admitted his guilt in the incident with his best friend Konstantin, explaining that he mistakenly believed that alcohol could neutralize the effects of poison.

"I am the only one to blame for my friend's death," Missyura said, adding that if he had immediately informed Konstantin's father of the true cause of poisoning, he might have remained alive.

Regarding the episode with grandma, Missyura pointed out that due to her advanced age, she could not withstand the effects of the substance. However, he stressed that he had never purchased arsenic and he did not know where this substance came from in the blood of his stepfather, mother and sister.

According to Missyura, the damage should have been inflicted solely on his stepfather, and he regrets that his "closest people" were also hit. In an episode concerning the girl's brother Denis, Missyura stated that he had never sought to take over someone else's property.

He also complained about procedural violations: he was not informed of the results of the psychological examination in a timely manner, and the investigator's questions were not recorded in the protocol and his answers were distorted. The defendant offered sincere apologies to all the victims in correspondence and expressed the hope that he would be able to do this personally.

"Maybe I was trying to whitewash myself somewhere, I'm not hiding it," Missyura admitted.

In conclusion, he asked the court not to impose a life sentence on him.

Missyura was detained on July 19, 2024. According to the investigation, from January to June, the suspect, while in his parents' apartment, poured strong chemicals into their products with the aim of fatal poisoning. Later, a surveillance camera was installed in the apartment, which recorded how Missyura poured toxic substances into his parents' food. On August 25 of this year, Missyura fully admitted his guilt.

In December last year, it was reported that Missyura wanted to burn down the car of his friend Konstantin's girlfriend after he drugged him with deadly poison. In September, it was also reported that Missyura filled his stepfather's coffee machine with a "potion" of chemicals and replaced spices in his house with poison. In addition, the defendant wanted to give his uncle and grandmother a deadly liquid disguised as "holy water."

On May 19, 2026, the prosecutor's office requested a life sentence for the Balashikha poisoner Missyura. The defendant was diagnosed with a hysterical personality disorder, and the prosecutor asked to be declared sane at the time of the crimes.
