Kyrgyzstan announced its readiness to sue the EU over anti-Russian sanctions
Kyrgyzstan is ready to sue the European Union (EU) if the union imposes sanctions against the republic due to suspected exports of certain goods to Russia. This was stated on March 2 in an interview with the Financial Times (FT) newspaper by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Kyrgyzstan, Daniyar Amangeldiev.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Bishkek is making every effort to comply with Western restrictions, but Brussels has not yet outlined clear criteria that would allow the country to demonstrate transparency of its actions and avoid falling under sanctions.
"This decision will have consequences for our image. If such a decision is made, we will be ready to challenge it in court," Amangeldiev stressed.
The politician added that the Kyrgyz side has evidence of measures taken to control exports, while the European side has not proposed appropriate mechanisms to meet its requirements.
"There have to be rules that we have to follow. If the rules are not formulated, how can we follow them?" Amangeldiev asked.
On January 29, the chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, announced that there were no plans to impose sanctions against Russia, as well as to send troops to Ukraine. He also stressed that Georgia welcomes the appointment of a new ambassador to Ukraine and hopes that this step has become a signal of rethinking the hostile rhetoric from the Ukrainian authorities towards Georgia.
Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, in turn, said on February 26 that Georgia was not imposing anti-Russian sanctions, as this could damage the republic itself. She stressed that the country continues to comply with international sanctions in the financial sphere and when moving goods across the border, but the rejection of anti-Russian measures is a strategic decision by Tbilisi.
