A court in Amsterdam denied Promes early release.
The Amsterdam Court of Appeal has refused the early release of the ex-striker of the Moscow football club Spartak. This was reported on December 18 by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf with reference to the decision of the court.
"The Amsterdam Court of Appeal nevertheless considered compelling circumstances sufficient to keep Promes in prison," the article says.
According to the newspaper, the football player's lawyer appealed to the court with a request for release so that Promes could take care of his children and resume his professional career. In addition, according to the defense, the Dutch athlete is experiencing significant financial difficulties.
In the Netherlands, two criminal cases have been initiated against a football player. One of them was on the fact of stabbing a cousin, for which he was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison. The second case concerns participation in the importation of more than a ton of cocaine through the port of the Belgian city of Antwerp, a court in Amsterdam sentenced the athlete to six years in prison in absentia. On March 1, the Netherlands began discussions with the UAE authorities on Promes' extradition.
In June of this year, Promes was arrested in Dubai at his home. Then he was taken to a temporary detention center. In the same month, the football player was extradited from the UAE to the Netherlands.
