The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has approved the verdict of Alexei Zarubin, who caused a gas explosion in an apartment building in Stupino. He received a life sentence to be served in a special regime colony. This was announced on April 8 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

The incident occurred in the early morning of April 11, 2022. As a result of the explosion in a five-storey building, apartments from the second to the fifth floor were destroyed. Six people were killed, including Zarubin's wife and two children, and 19 residents were injured.

In July 2023, the investigation concluded that on the night before the tragedy, the man had quarreled with his wife, closed the window, plugged the hood with a baby blanket, opened all the taps on the gas stove, then struck a lighter and ignited the kitchen.

On June 3, 2025, the defendant's lawyer, Igor Litvinenko, told Izvestia that the first Court of Appeal of general jurisdiction upheld Zarubin's sentence. However, it later became known that Zarubin's mother refused to testify against her son in court.
