Witkoff: in Abu Dhabi, they discussed ways to cease fire and monitor it
The second round of negotiations on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine has ended in Abu Dhabi, during which the parties paid attention to the issues of ceasefire and monitoring compliance with agreements. This was announced on February 5 by the special envoy of the President of the United States, Steve Witkoff.
"Over the course of two days, the delegations held extensive and comprehensive discussions on the remaining unresolved issues, including ways to implement the ceasefire and mechanisms for monitoring the cessation of hostilities," Witkoff wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The talks took place on Wednesday and Thursday in the format of a trilateral meeting with the participation of the delegations of Russia, the United States and Ukraine. This is the second round of consultations: the previous meeting was also held in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. Both rounds were held behind closed doors without the presence of press representatives.
In addition, Witkoff noted that the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi were constructive and focused on creating conditions for lasting peace.
At the same time, American leader Donald Trump said that the United States had almost achieved a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He also stated that the United States is working hard to "put an end to this conflict."
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the Russian delegation, which was in Abu Dhabi, promptly reported all the information to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
