Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was killed in prison under unknown circumstances. This was reported on November 26 by the Afghan Times newspaper, citing an informed source.

"A reliable source from Pakistan confirmed to the Afghanistan Times that Imran Khan was allegedly mysteriously killed and his body was taken out of prison," the newspaper wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Information about the possible violent death of the politician has not yet been officially confirmed.

On January 31, 2024, Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison in a corruption case involving the sale of valuables stored in the Toshahan state Treasury. The convict was also banned from holding any public office for 10 years and fined 787 million rupees (about $2.8 million).

The "Toshahana case" is related to the sale of valuables from Toshahana without paying taxes. In March 2023, charges were brought against the ex-minister, 17 of his assistants and several dozen other people for the sale of state property worth more than $ 630 thousand, money laundering and dozens of other crimes.

On August 5, a court in Islamabad sentenced Khan to three years in prison and suspended him from political activity in a corruption case. Two days later, his lawyer, Naim Panjuta, stated that his client was complaining about the conditions of detention. According to Panjuta, the imprisoned politician is being held in a small, dirty prison cell. In particular, the former prime minister complains about flies and other insects swarming in the cell, the lawyer said.
