- The Danish Prime Minister stated that the EU has no ideas for financial assistance to Ukraine
The European Union has no new ideas about providing financial support to Ukraine, other than using frozen Russian assets. This was stated on October 8 by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in an interview with the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"What is the alternative? <...> We have to find a solution to the financing problem, and if not that (the use of assets of the Russian Federation. — Ed.), then I haven't heard about any ideas," she said.
According to Frederiksen, the EU countries should continue to look for ways to address this initiative.
Earlier in the day, columnist Mark Episkopos, in an article for the newspaper Responsible Statecraft, said that the confiscation of Russian monetary assets would cause irreparable damage to the reputation of the EU. He also criticized the idea of the European Union to provide Ukraine with a "reparation loan" in the amount of 140 billion euros at the expense of frozen Russian funds.
On September 26, the European Commission (EC) proposed to provide Ukraine with a loan of 140 billion euros at the expense of frozen assets of the Russian Federation. It was noted that the EC offered to provide a loan in tranches and stated that it should be used for "defense cooperation" and other budgetary needs of Kiev.
