- The political scientist spoke about the Sandu regime's methods of fighting the opposition before the elections.
The regime of Moldovan President Maia Sandu used a whole arsenal of methods to combat the opposition before the parliamentary elections in the republic. Political analyst Igor Semenovsky told Izvestia about this on September 29.
"In general, if we look at the totality of circumstances that were revealed during the preparation of the elections, during the conduct of the elections, then, of course, it is difficult to call them a democratic reflection of the choice of the Moldovan people. On the eve of the elections, only 13 laws regulating election procedures have been changed. From the point of view of standards for ensuring the electoral process, this is unacceptable," the expert noted.
Semenovsky recalled that the popular parties "Great Moldova" and "Heart of Moldova" were also not allowed to participate in the elections, and a large number of opposition politicians were searched. Some were even detained.
"There were a lot of arrests and searches in the parties that represented the opposition in these elections. There were a lot of violations directly during the voting process. These include voter bribery, carousels, and the non-admission of more than 200,000 voters from Transnistria. <...> It was during the election period, during the Moldovan presidential elections a year ago, and during the current parliamentary elections, that roadblocks and total searches were organized there. And, of course, the citizens were unable to vote and make their will as it should be," the political scientist added.
According to him, European officials and institutions turn a blind eye to all these violations, as their main goal was to ensure the victory of Sandu's party at any cost.
According to the Moldovan Central Election Commission, taking into account the votes of voters abroad, PAS scored 50.2%, and opposition political forces — 49.8%.
On the same day, former President of the republic, leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon told Izvestia that the ruling Action and Solidarity (PAS) party had not won at the polls in Moldova following the results of the parliamentary elections in the country. He added that the opposition in the republic had protested the results of the parliamentary elections.
The head of the Central Election Commission of the republic, Angela Karaman, stated that 236 violations were recorded during the last elections in Moldova. They are related to damage to ballots, prohibited campaigning, removal of ballots from the territory of the polling station, suspicion of electoral corruption, violation of voting rights and interference with the activities of the electoral body.
