The restoration of Russia's membership rights in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is a long—awaited and happy event for athletes from Russia. On September 27, Vadim Alyoshkin, a master of sports of international class, champion of the alternative Paralympic Games in 2016, told Izvestia about this.

"This is the news of the day. I've been waiting for this for almost 10 years. And finally, I see how this event has come into our lives. Now our athletes, coaches, and specialists of national sports teams will be able to represent our country under our favorite anthem and flag," he shared.

Aleshkin expressed hope that now the Russian national team will be able to perform at a higher level, since, in his opinion, the national flag and anthem significantly enhance the motivation and effectiveness of each athlete.

The master of sports also explained that he suspended his career in 2020, including due to his unwillingness to compete under a neutral flag. However, he noted that the news about the restoration of the status of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) inspires and raises thoughts of returning to big-time sports.

Earlier that day, the RPC secured reinstatement of its membership rights in the IPC. Thus, Russians will be able to participate in the Paralympic Games with the flag, anthem and other attributes of Russia. These sports include athletics, swimming, powerlifting, sledge hockey, and bullet shooting. At the same time, the IPC fully restored the membership rights of the Belarusian Paralympic Committee.
