- Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee Zhurova called the restoration of Russia's membership in the IPC an important step.
The restoration of Russia's membership rights in the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is a big step forward for Russian athletes. Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestia on September 27.
"This is very good news, and right now our swimmers are performing very successfully at the World Championships. I wish them further good luck, and it is good that such an example has been given to the Olympic Committee. Let them adopt it and do the same with our Olympians," she said.
At the same time, Zhurova stressed that now Russian athletes will be able to compete at the Paralympic Games with a flag and an anthem.
The deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee clarified that currently not all federations are members of the Paralympic Committee, but even in the current conditions, the admission of Russian athletes with national symbols is an important breakthrough.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) secured reinstatement of its IPC membership rights. This way, Russians will be able to participate in the Paralympic Games with the flag, anthem and other attributes of Russia. These sports include athletics, swimming, powerlifting, sledge hockey, and bullet shooting. At the same time, the IPC fully restored the membership rights of the Belarusian Paralympic Committee.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
