The Renaissance Party was not allowed to participate in the parliamentary elections in Moldova

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova has refused to register the candidates of the Renaissance party for the parliamentary elections to be held in the country in September. The Commission announced this on August 22 in its Telegram channel.

"The Commission rejected the request to register a list of candidates for the position of a deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on behalf of the Renaissance political party," the statement said.

The Central Election Commission of Moldova refers to the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal, which granted the request of the Ministry of Justice to restrict the activities of the parties of the opposition bloc Pobeda. It includes, among others, the Vozrozhdenie faction. In addition to the ban on participation in elections, party members cannot campaign, create mass media, organize meetings and rallies.

On August 19, the Chisinau Court of Appeal restricted the activities of the parties belonging to the Moldovan opposition bloc "Victory": "Renaissance", "Chance", "The Power of Alternative and Salvation of Moldova" and "Victory". It was noted that the restriction would remain in effect until the consideration of the claim of the Ministry of Justice, which requires recognizing these parties as the legal successors of the unconstitutional Shor party and liquidating them.

On August 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced desperate attempts by the Moldovan authorities to limit the activities of the opposition forces that are gaining popularity with the help of punitive and repressive tools. Zakharova added that among the methods used by the Moldovan authorities against the opposition are the seizure of printed campaign materials, open threats to initiate criminal proceedings against party leaders, and the exclusion of political associations from the electoral process.
