Vitamin deficiencies can cause significant harm to health, so it is necessary to make up for the lack of a particular trace element in a timely manner. A lack of vitamin D, for example, can seriously affect brain function, she said.Газете.ги " endocrinologist and expert of the social project "Dementia.net" by Natalia Sevastyanova on Saturday, July 26.

"Certain living conditions may indicate an increased likelihood of vitamin D deficiency. If a person has forgotten why he came to the room, could this be due to a disadvantage? Yes, it can. But that's not the only reason. Check if you have any factors that increase the risk of deficiency. Pay attention to such features as the harsh climate (living north of latitude 40), dark skin color, regular application of sunscreen, age over 70, vegetarianism and strict diet, indoor work, life in a polluted city, preference for closed clothes," Sevastyanova listed.

She noted that there are various forms of vitamin D that are necessary for the proper functioning of the body, and they can be obtained from food as well as from other sources such as sunlight, since the active form of this vitamin, D3 (cholecalciferol), is synthesized in the skin under the action of ultraviolet rays. Among the foods rich in vitamin D, Sevastyanova mentioned herring, salmon, mackerel, cod liver and egg yolks.

"The receptor and vitamin D are like a lock and key. Having found its "lock", the vitamin begins to work. It helps neurons transmit signals to each other, protects nerve cells from damage, and affects immune processes inside the brain. And there is also evidence today that it reduces the level of biomarkers associated with beta-amyloid (Aß) in patients with dementia. Large studies convincingly prove this connection," she said.

Earlier, on July 24, Daria Khaikina, a pediatric endocrinologist at the SM Clinic, said that the benefits of children's vitamins in the form of marmalade are offset by a large amount of added sugar and artificial flavors. They impair the absorption of many vitamins, such as C and D.

Before that, on July 23, the obstetrician-gynecologist of the Center for Reproductive Health of the SM Clinic, Idilia Orfanova, named vitamins for women's health. The doctor noted that vitamins A, C, D and E, as well as folic acid (vitamin B9), will be useful.
