Senior European diplomats expect the United States to announce a reduction in its military presence in Europe in the next few months. This was reported by the Handelsblatt newspaper on May 25.

It is noted that Elbridge Colby, a national security policy specialist and chief strategist at the Pentagon, is one of the main ideologists of the reduction of American troops. In his opinion, Washington is depressed by its current role as a world leader.

"The United States is not sufficiently prepared for a possible military confrontation with China, and failure would be a disaster for us," Colby said in an interview with Handelsblatt earlier.

At the same time, it is clarified that at the moment there are no concerns about the complete withdrawal of United States troops from Europe.

In turn, the former commander of the US army in Europe, Ben Hodges, said that the number of US ground forces in Europe would be reduced for financial reasons in order to free up resources for the air force and navy in case of a possible confrontation with China.
