- Vance announced US plans to achieve direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in 100 days
The United States intends to achieve direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the next 100 days. This was announced on May 1 by American Vice President Jay Dee Vance in an interview with Fox News channel.
He noted that the first step in the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict was to collect proposals from both sides and clarify their requests regarding the final agreement. According to Vance, the positions of the Russian Federation and Ukraine on this issue are now far apart and need to be brought closer.
"We have taken this first step. We have received a peace offer <...>, and we are going to work very hard for the next 100 days to bring these guys (Russia and Ukraine. — Ed.) together," said the vice president.
A day earlier, US President Donald Trump's special envoy Keith Kellogg announced that Kiev had agreed to 22 terms for resolving the conflict, which the American side presented at the talks in London. According to him, Ukraine and European countries have expressed interest in a 30-day ceasefire.
On April 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that negotiations with the United States on the conflict in Ukraine were moving in the right direction. He recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among other things, expressed the opinion that during the negotiations Washington better understood Moscow's position, as well as the underlying causes of the conflict.
