Advisor to the Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) Dmitry Bunevich believes that statements by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are often provocative and demagogic. He informed Izvestia about this on March 24.

"Many professional military men, both French and British, are categorically against these adventures, which they allow themselves at least at the rhetorical level of politics," the political scientist believes.

The political scientist recalled that France and the United Kingdom have serious defense potential, and Germany is also ready to participate in the militarization of Europe. But, on the other hand, this issue affects the national economies of states, and the collective military strategy that Macron insists on requires, first of all, the coordination of the interests of France and Germany.

"We should be well aware that after Brexit, London is following a rather peculiar line. And even Starmer, with all his, so to speak, pro-European pathos, nevertheless, always emphasizes the special relationship that exists between the United States and Great Britain," he concluded.

Bunevich stressed that the rhetoric about the "collective West" with its common internal interests is wrong, since the European Union and the United States are two separate "projects", each with its own goals. According to the political scientist, their relations will continue to deteriorate, including due to competition between European and American financial and industrial groups.
