A monument will be erected in Mariupol in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

A monument "Mariupol - City of Military Glory" is being erected in Mariupol in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This is a gift from St. Petersburg to the twin city. Images from the place of work on February 5 published "Izvestia".

Vladimir Pod'yablonsky, head of the construction department of Modul-Center LLC, said that the design for the memorial was helped by a team of authors led by Salavat Shcherbakov, People's Artist of Russia.

"The composition of the monument will consist of five elements: the central part of the stele, which will be made in granite and four tummies, which will be located in the corners. The whole area of the monument will be faced with granite. On the central part of the stele facade there will be a bronze bas-relief with the image of the participants of the Great Patriotic War and special military operation of Mariupol city", - said Podjablonsky.

The bollards, according to him, will depict the history of the city of Mariupol. He noted that there will be pedestrian paths, benches, and flower beds around the monument.

At the moment the monument is undergoing reinforcement works, after which the foundation for the monument will be concreted.

Podiablonsky assured that despite the tight deadlines, the monument will be erected before May 9.

Earlier, on February 3, Mariupol approved new symbols of the city. According to Oleg Morgun, acting head of the city district, the color scheme of the coat of arms reflects the location of the city on the shore of the Sea of Azov and the historical features of its foundation. White color symbolizes metallurgy, which is one of the key industries of Mariupol's economy.

The title "City of Military Glory" was awarded to Mariupol by Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 15, 2022. It was awarded for courage, fortitude and mass heroism shown by the defenders of the city in the fight for freedom and independence of the country.

The federal constitutional law on the adoption of the liberated regions into the Russian Federation was signed on October 5, 2022. According to it, residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR), as well as Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions are recognized as Russian citizens from the day of their admission to the Russian Federation.
