U.S. Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Israel's killing of a Hezbollah leader "has brought justice to the Iranian-backed group."

Asked about the Israeli airstrike on Beirut that killed a senior Hezbollah commander, Sullivan said "it's a good outcome when people are brought to justice," Reuters quoted him as saying.

He noted, however, that he was concerned about the escalation between Israel and Lebanon. According to him, there is a way to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, but the U.S. is not at the stage at the moment when it is ready to bring something to the negotiating table.

The day before, Israel launched a strike on Beirut. It was noted that the airstrike on the Lebanese capital was targeted. Later, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported the elimination of the head of the task force of the radical movement "Hezbollah" Ibrahim Akil.

On September 19, the IDF said that the Israeli military carried out a series of attacks on Hezbollah facilities in Lebanon. 100 launchers and facilities of the Shiite movement came under attack. Before this, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that the country is transferring forces to the northern front due to the beginning of a new phase of the war.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
