NYT named a possible heir to Jeffrey Epstein's fortune

Karina Shulyak, a native of Belarus, can claim a significant part of the inheritance of American financier Jeffrey Epstein. This was reported on July 26 by The New York Times (NYT).

According to the publication, Shulyak met Epstein when she was 21 years old. The woman had been in a relationship with him for eight years and tried to avoid publicity after his death.

"Meet the woman who could inherit most of Jeffrey Epstein's fortune. 37-year—old Karina Shulyak <...> tried to go into the shadows after his death," the publication says.

The NYT notes that Shulyak did not identify herself as a victim of Epstein and did not appear in criminal cases related to charges against the financier.

According to the publication, it was Shulyak who became the last person Epstein called from prison in 2019 shortly before his death. After that, he was found dead in his cell.

American financier Jeffrey Epstein was accused of organizing a scheme of sexual exploitation of minors. After his death, the question arose about the fate of a significant fortune, including real estate and other assets.

According to the NYT, possible applicants for Epstein's inheritance may be identified as part of further legal procedures.

Epstein's files began to be published on December 20, 2025, after US President Donald Trump signed a bill on their release on November 19 of the same year. On February 14, former United States Attorney General Pam Bondi published a list of more than 300 names of famous people who are mentioned in the files on the financier's case. It was noted that the text contains the names of the 42nd American president Bill Clinton, the 46th head of state Joe Biden, one of the founders of Microsoft, Bill Gates, as well as singer Beyonce.
