The United States will hold Iran responsible in the event of new attacks by Yemeni Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement on ships in the Red Sea and will take military measures against Tehran and the movement itself. This was announced on July 23 by the American President Donald Trump.

"Let this truth serve as a warning: if this happens again, the United States will hold Iran responsible, since the Houthis are its satellite and intermediary. In this case, Iran, as well as, of course, the Houthis themselves, will be subjected to serious military punishment," he wrote on his page on the Truth Social network.

The US president recalled that about a year ago, Washington inflicted "very powerful blows" on the Houthis due to attacks on ships and the creation of obstacles to merchant shipping. After that, the movement, according to Trump, behaved "responsibly," including during the US war with Iran.

Speaking about the new attacks on ships in the Red Sea, Trump said he was "extremely disappointed with the Houthis." In his opinion, up to this point, representatives of Ansar Allah had acted "very professionally and reasonably."

At night, the Yemeni Houthis announced an attack on two Saudi oil tankers that violated the blockade and entered the Red Sea. The attack was allegedly carried out using several ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. There was a fire on the ships. In addition, the Office of Maritime Trade Operations of Great Britain reported damage to a Saudi tanker by an "unknown projectile."

Prior to that, on July 20, Yahya Saria, the military representative of the Ansar Allah movement, announced the introduction of a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia. The decision is related to the long-term blockade of Yemen, the restriction of ports and airports, as well as the attack on the international airport of the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The movement called Saudi Arabia's actions illegal and claimed the right to respond to the blockade with similar measures. Trump stated that the United States would take measures against the Houthis if they imposed a blockade on Saudi Arabia.
