The head of the "Citizens of the USSR" sect was arrested in Moscow
The 80-year-old leader of the Citizens of the USSR organization (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) was detained in Moscow By Vladimir Koryakin. This is evidenced by the information in the file of the official Internet portal of the courts of general jurisdiction of the capital.
After a closed session on June 19, the Ostankino city court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Koryakin. The man is suspected of committing acts against the foundations of the constitutional order. The defendant faces up to six years in prison.
It is known that Koryakin refuses to use modern documents and recruited like-minded people into the ranks of the movement. At the same time, for 35 years Koryakin spread the idea that the Soviet Union continued to exist and called for joining his organization. According to some reports, the number of supporters of the movement reaches 10 thousand people, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".
In May, four members of the Jehovah's Witnesses sect (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) were detained in Crimea, who clandestinely recruited new members to the organization and collected donations. A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of the activities of a religious association against which a court has decided to liquidate for extremism").
