- The CIS Secretary General announced the transformation of Europe into a crisis zone due to the actions of the West on NATO
The West's actions on NATO are turning Europe into a permanent crisis zone. This was announced on June 25 by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergey Lebedev.
"The West's attempts to extend NATO's influence to the east, the reckless expansion of military infrastructure to the borders of the CIS countries and the dismantling of arms control treaties are turning Europe into a permanent crisis zone," Lebedev said during a speech at the Primakov Readings International Scientific and Expert Forum.
According to him, quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency, the old security model, which was based on Euro-Atlantic dominance, is gradually becoming a thing of the past. The CIS Secretary General stressed that Eurasian security should be indivisible, inclusive and multilevel. At the same time, as Lebedev noted, security cannot be directed against anyone, since its goal is to stabilize the entire macroregion.
"We record attempts by external players to split relations between our countries, reanimate frozen conflicts and provoke new hotbeds of tension," he added.
In addition, the borders of the CIS are once again being destabilized, and security issues are "more acute than ever," Lebedev said.
On June 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the West's statements about the threat from the Russian Federation false. He noted that NATO countries have moved from supporting Kiev to directly preparing for war with Russia, increasing offensive military budgets. At the same time, the leaders of the alliance and the European Union continue to use false claims about the alleged Russian threat to justify militarization.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on the same day that the risk of a military clash between Russia and NATO was increasing. The diplomat stressed that for the sake of NATO's geopolitical aspirations, the Baltic region has now been artificially turned into an arena of confrontation, which creates new risks, including "military incidents."
