Rostec called the market entry of the advanced heavy helicopter of the Russian Federation and China a sensation.

Rostec State Corporation, together with the Chinese company Avicopter, is working on an advanced new-generation heavy helicopter with a payload capacity of 14-16 tons. Viktor Kladov, Director for International Cooperation at the state corporation, told about this on May 17 on the sidelines of the Russian-Chinese EXPO in Harbin.

"It will be a helicopter heavier than the Mi-171, but lighter than the Mi-26," Kladov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, adding that the Mi-171 lifts 10-12 tons, and the Mi-26 - 20 tons.

According to him, the Chinese side is the developer of the machine, while Rostec, under separate contracts, designs components and assemblies for it, including a gearbox and transmission.

The work on the contracts has been fully completed, and the helicopter's production is currently undergoing a state audit by the People's Republic of China.

"Work is underway, and it will be a sensation when a jointly created new machine enters the market," Kladov stressed.

He clarified that such a model would not be in demand in Russia, since the Russian Federation already has the Mi-26, which is also operated in China.

"And they need such a heavy helicopter, especially for Tibet, so China is extremely interested in the appearance of such a machine, and here we are working closely with it," concluded the director of Rostec.

As Kladov pointed out, this is a landmark project that implies not just cooperation, but joint development with subsequent joint release.
