Twenty-one films entered the main competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
On April 9, the organizers of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival published the program of the main competition. It includes 21 films, including new works by Spaniard Pedro Almodovar, Japanese Hirokazu Koreda, Iranian Asghar Farhadi and other famous directors.
The main competition features "Bitter Christmas" by Almodovar, "Parallel Stories" by Farhadi, "Coward" by Lucas Donte, "Lamb in a Box" by Koreda, "Our Salvation" by Emmanuel Marr, "The Mill" by Laszlo Nemes, as well as films by Charlene Bourgeois-Taka, Javier Ambrosi and Javier Calvo, Na Hong Jin, Valeski Grisebach, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Arthur Arari, Jeanne Herry, Koji Fukada, Marie Kreutzer, Christian Mungiu, Lea Misius, Pavel Pavlikovsky, Ira Sachs and Rodrigo Sorogoyen.
The only American film in the competition is "The Man I Love" by Ira Sachs. Major Hollywood studios will not be represented at the festival. John Travolta's debut film "Propeller: One-Way Night Flight" will be held outside the main competition.
The 79th Cannes Film Festival will be held from 12 to 23 May.
Iranian director Jafar Panahi's action-packed political thriller "A Simple Accident" won the Palme d'Or grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival last May. The second place in the event was taken by Norwegian director Joakim Triera with the film "Sentimental Value". The work tells the story of a gradually disintegrating family.
On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).
