China predicts defeat of the West in case of transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine
The transfer of nuclear weapons to Kiev would be a defeat not only for Ukraine, but also for the entire Western community. This was announced on February 25 by the Chinese portal Sohu.
According to the analysts of the portal, even if Kiev receives this type of weapons, it will not be able to form a full-fledged strategic deterrent force. At the same time, Ukraine itself, after receiving nuclear weapons, will become a priority target for a potential nuclear strike from Russia.
"Overcoming the nuclear threshold will mean defeat not only for Ukraine, but for the entire West," the article says.
The publication notes that such a scenario carries huge risks for European countries, in particular for Great Britain and France. In case of loss of control over the spread of technology and charges, the main impact will be on Europe. In addition, the authors wondered whether the United States, as the leaders of NATO, would be willing to bear the consequences of such a decision.
John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, in turn, noted that provocations by Western countries with the intention of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine could have consequences in the form of a response from Russia. Mearsheimer specified that if Ukraine's European allies continue to support it, Russia may respond with a blow.
On February 24, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service announced plans by London and Paris to secretly transfer nuclear weapons to Kiev. Later, the Federation Council called on the French and British sides to conduct parliamentary investigations, and the chairman of the instance, Valentina Matvienko, stressed that Ukraine's status as a nuclear-weapon-free state was not subject to revision.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that Russia's opponents, who "do not disdain any means," understand how an attempt to use nuclear weapons could end. According to him, Western states are trying to disrupt the peace negotiation process in this way.
