- It became known about the new development of the Russian Armed Forces soldiers to protect artillery from UAVs.
Military personnel of the repair company of the 11th Army Corps of the North group of forces have developed a design to protect towed artillery pieces from drones The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on February 13 by the commander of the unit with the call sign Pushkin.
"The enemy is currently using a very large number of FPV drones, as well as Baba Yaga-type hexacopters, and various types of ammunition are being dropped. We have developed a blueprint for the protection of towed guns, we have not done this before," the fighter said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Pushkin clarified that this protection system has already been tested by Russian gunners. Now they are used by calculations of D-30 and M-46 howitzers in the Kharkov direction. In addition, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are improving the technology, taking into account the best practices.
On December 19, tankers of the 1442nd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 6th Motorized Rifle Division of the 3rd Army Corps of the Southern Group of Forces told how they equipped the T-72B3M tank with additional protection from the AFU FPV drones, making their model unique.
The driver with the call sign Sexton, talking about the development, clarified that the combat vehicle is equipped not only with a "brazier" (a mesh metal frame mounted directly on the equipment itself), but also with a so—called porcupine - an aluminum wire fixed to the tank body, which serves as protection from enemy UAVs.
