The European Union (EU) is considering banning imports of Russian platinum and copper as part of a new package of sanctions. This was reported on February 2 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

"The European Union is considering the possibility of banning imports from Russia of several metals of the platinum group and copper as part of new sanctions against Moscow," the article says.

It is noted that the restrictions, in addition to platinum and copper, may apply to iridium and rhodium. They are used in the chemical industry, the space industry, the automotive industry, electronics, jewelry, and many other fields. The adoption of these restrictions will require the votes of all EU countries.

The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, confirmed on January 29 that the leaders of the EU member states plan to introduce a new, 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions on February 24.

Bloomberg reported on January 30 that the EU plans to replace the ceiling on Russian oil prices with a ban on shipping petroleum products by sea. According to the agency, if the initiative receives the support of EU member states, European companies will be prohibited from providing insurance and transportation services necessary for the sea delivery of Russian oil, regardless of its price.
