Large shipments of fetid waste from illegal landfills in Italy, including from companies linked to organized crime, were brought to Finland. This was reported on February 2 by the Finnish broadcasting company Yle in its investigation.

"The Italian mafia's tentacles are penetrating deep into the waste management business. She offered cheap transportation to waste producers, and then illegally dumped them into the environment," said Finnish prosecutor Raffaella Vinciguerra, who specializes in mafia.

According to journalists, tens of thousands of tons of waste were delivered to Finland from the Sicula Trasporti enterprise, whose management was previously convicted of illegal dumping of garbage and bribery.

The investigation notes that control over waste transportation in Italy is often violated due to corruption and the influence of the "eco-mafia." Finnish authorities check imported garbage only selectively, which allows unscrupulous companies to import hazardous waste under the guise of recycled.

On January 30, the Ambassador of Namibia to Russia, Monica Nashandi, asked the Russian side for help in solving waste problems in her country. She noted that Namibia is counting on Russia's help in organizing a waste collection, transportation and recycling system in the capital, Winhoek.
