Zakharova said she did not trust the version of the Nord Stream bombing
The Russian side will not accept the claim that Ukraine is solely behind the undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream—2 gas pipelines. This was announced on January 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We will not accept at face value attempts to convince us and the whole world that only Ukrainians are behind the explosions of the Nord Streams," she said at a briefing.
According to her, it is still important to conduct an impartial and comprehensive investigation of the incident. Zakharova stressed that the Russian Federation requires due verification of the version about the possible involvement of Western intelligence services in the sabotage.
In addition, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that Poland will fulfill its international obligations and will not shelter the suspect in the explosion of gas pipelines.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on January 16 called for the unequivocal naming of those responsible for the Nord Stream bombing, also defining the responsibility they will have to bear.
On December 10, 2025, a court in Germany ruled that the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were "highly likely" to have been blown up by order of a foreign state. As the ruling is read, it becomes clear that the court was referring to Ukraine.
The newspaper Die Zeit reported back on August 27 that German investigators had probably identified all the saboteurs involved in the attack on the gas pipelines. Law enforcement officers also identified links between part of the crew used to attack the yacht and the Ukrainian special services or the military.
Leaks on gas pipelines were discovered in September 2022. Bjorn Lund, a representative of the Swedish seismic center, said that two powerful underwater explosions were registered in the area of pipeline leaks at the time of the emergency. After that, traces of explosives were found at the accident site.
