A number of European countries have warned about new rules for shadow fleet tankers
Representatives of 14 European countries have signed a warning regarding tankers of the so-called shadow fleets in the Baltic and North Seas. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 27.
The document specifies that ships must fly the flag of only one state and have all the necessary documentation, including insurance.
"Vessels that do not follow these rules will be considered 'non—state owned,'" the statement said.
On December 12, a foreign tanker carrying 6 million liters of contraband fuel was detained in Iran in the Gulf of Oman. Then it was clarified that the tanker did not have navigation documentation and cargo clearance, it also turned off the navigation systems. There were 18 crew members on board — citizens of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
