In terms of defense, Belarus and Russia are a single entity. This was announced on January 19 by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with Governor of the Kirov region of Russia Alexander Sokolov.

"In terms of defense, Russia and I are here as a single whole, and it makes no sense to look at us separately — at Belarus, separately at Russia," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.

Lukashenko also expressed the opinion that Belarus should not be a dividing line, but a bridge between East and West, as it has been historically. He also assured that Moscow and Minsk are ready to jointly defend their interests.

On January 16, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out the intensive nature of Russian-Belarusian political contacts at the highest and highest levels.

On December 21, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the leader of Belarus, thanked him for his high assessment of the quality of Russian-Belarusian relations. Lukashenko, in turn, noted that Belarus and Russia are implementing all agreements, starting from military-technical and military-defense cooperation and ending with the economy.
