- The media reported on the beginning of Iran's preparations to disconnect from the global Internet
Iran has begun preparations to disconnect from the global Internet by creating a "whitelist" of available sites and starting work on the internal Internet. This was reported on January 13 by The Guardian newspaper, citing Iranian digital rights expert Amir Rashidi.
According to the publication, the list of "white sites" includes internal search engines, maps and messengers, as well as a state-approved streaming service that publishes only videos authorized by the authorities.
In addition, according to Rashidi, a limited version of the Internet is already operating in Iran, which is controlled by the government and has no connection with the outside world. This is part of a broader effort to create a completely isolated digital environment, which can significantly affect access and freedom of information within the country.
A day earlier, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt, commenting on the protests that began in Iran, said that US President Donald Trump would not be afraid to use American military force against the Islamic Republic. On January 13, the head of the White House appealed to the allies and citizens of his country with a request to immediately leave the territory of Iran, calling on the Iranian protesters to seize government institutions. According to the CBS television channel, between 12 and 20 thousand people could have died during the protests in Iran.
