- Orban was elected FIDESZ's candidate for the post of prime minister in the Hungarian elections
The ruling FIDESZ—Hungarian Civil Union party has again nominated Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as a candidate for the post of head of government in the upcoming parliamentary elections. This decision was made at the 31st Congress of the party, held in Budapest. The event was broadcast on January 10 by M1 TV channel.
It is specified that the candidacy of the current prime minister was supported by the congress participants unanimously and without alternative proposals. Speaking to party members, Orban thanked them for their trust.
He noted that, despite almost 20 years in power, he is still ready to continue working as head of government.
Orban first became head of the Hungarian government in 1998. He held the post until 2022, after which he replaced Gordon Baynai in May 2010, adds "Газета.Ru ".
In October 2025, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto criticized Tusk for his desire to support the Hungarian opposition. The diplomat noted that a similar situation had already occurred in 2022, when Tusk came to Hungary to speak at an opposition rally, after which the ruling FIDESZ party won the largest victory in the country's history.
