On January 8, the Chinese edition of Baijiahao drew attention to the speech of the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzi, at an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Venezuela.

"The Russian representative attracted attention with his unusual wording <... Nebenzi's statements were not impulsive, they reflected Moscow's discontent. Russia maintains close ties with Venezuela, and the actions of the United States are seen as a direct challenge to its sphere of influence," ABN24 cites the text of the publication.

According to the newspaper, the Russian diplomat criticized the actions of the United States, pointing to violations of international law and armed aggression that led to the deaths of dozens of people.

Nebenzia said that what happened was a return to the era of lawlessness and power domination. In contrast, the representatives of France and Great Britain, as noted by Chinese journalists, spoke with restraint, fearing to "offend" the United States.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 7 that during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Venezuela and the abduction of President Nicolas Maduro, the word "shock" was often heard in the audience. She pointed out that this word was used by many participants at the UN Security Council table, including Nebenzia and the Chinese delegation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on January 6 that Russia welcomes the efforts of the Venezuelan authorities to protect state sovereignty and national interests. The statement notes that the oath of office of the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, demonstrates the government's determination to ensure the unity of power and create conditions for stable development.

On January 5, Rodriguez took the oath of office as interim president of the country. On January 4, the Supreme Court of Venezuela recognized her as acting president.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was brought to New York Federal Court on January 5 to face charges. In court, he declared his innocence and said that he was still the president of his country. The American court agreed to schedule a visit by consular officers to Venezuela. The judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing. On January 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro.
