Szijjarto announced the West's move towards direct conflict with Russia
Western European countries are increasing the risk of direct military conflict with Russia by promoting the idea of a military presence in Ukraine. This was announced on January 7 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto on the social network X.
Commenting on the meeting of the "coalition of the willing" in Paris, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about its results.
"In an effort to ensure a military presence in Ukraine, Western European countries are increasing the threat of direct conflict with Russia," Szijjarto wrote.
He stressed that Hungary continues to advocate for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict. According to him, Budapest supports peace talks, including high-level contacts between the United States and Russia, and rejects Brussels' decisions, which, in his opinion, bring escalation closer.
Earlier, on December 17, 2025, it was reported that Peter Szijjarto accused Western European leaders of "military fanaticism" and attempts to disrupt the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. He stated that the leadership of the EU and a number of Western European countries is hindering peace initiatives and opposes high-level negotiations between Russia and the United States.
