The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries held new telephone talks to discuss the situation in Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on December 30.

"European leaders held a conversation to discuss Ukraine after Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would reconsider his country's position in the negotiations," the article says.

The conversation took place against the background of the recent Ukrainian drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. It is noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen took part in the conversation. The agency does not provide details of the conversation.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had attempted a drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. He noted that Russia's negotiating position would be reviewed in light of Kiev's attempt to attack the residence of the Russian president.

At the same time, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that President Trump was shocked to learn about the attack on Putin's residence during telephone conversations with him. According to an aide to the Russian president, Putin stressed during the conversation that such actions would not be left without a serious response, and said that the Russian Federation's position on a number of previously reached agreements would be reviewed.

Later, on December 30, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the attack on Putin's residence from Ukraine was a terrorist attack. The Kremlin representative stressed that provocations and terrorist attacks are not capable of disrupting the trusting nature of the dialogue between Russia and the United States. The diplomatic consequences, he said, would be to toughen Russia's position on the settlement.
