Starting from September 1, 2026, six "sober villages" will appear in the Irkutsk Region, in which the retail sale of alcoholic beverages will be completely prohibited. This was announced on December 25 by the press service of the regional government on its website.

"The Cabinet of Ministers of the region adopted a resolution, <...> according to which, "sober villages" will appear in the region from September 1, 2026. <...> The introduction of the ban is due to the need to reduce the consumption of alcoholic beverages, since in settlements remote from the regional center, as a rule, there is a more negative trend with the consumption of alcoholic beverages," the publication says.

The list of settlements that fall under the ban includes: the village of Tarasovo and the village of Yukhta in the Kazachinsko-Lena district, the village of Banshchikova and the village of Saltykova in the Kirensky district, the village of Slyudyanka in the Mamsko-Chuisky district and the village of Millerova in the Nizhneudinsky district. The ban does not apply to the sale of alcohol in catering establishments.

The government of the Irkutsk region claims that the decision was made on the basis of appeals from the heads of municipalities and taking into account the opinion of residents, "who voted by a majority in favor of establishing such a ban."

At the end of November, it became known that in the Moscow region, starting from March 1, alcohol sales in public catering will be limited to two hours a day. We are talking about establishments located in apartment buildings and courtyards, with the exception of restaurants. An exception will also be points where the entrances are located from the side of the road at a distance of no more than 30 m from the roadway.
