- In memory of the military commander of Izvestia, Martemyanov, the Hero's Desk was opened in Donetsk.
In the Kirovsky district of Donetsk, a "Hero's Desk" was opened at school No. 88 in memory of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Martemyanov, who died in the special military operation zone. Footage of the December 20 event is published by Izvestia.
The journalist's father Sergey Martemyanov told what his son was like. He noted that Alexander was engaged in lawn tennis and successfully combined sports with studies. After school, Martemyanov graduated from the Institute of Physical Education.
"The year 2013-2014 began <...>. Sasha took all this hard, but it was probably hard for everyone to perceive how you can just shoot at people who want to speak their own language and express their opinions," recalls Martemyanov.
He stressed that his son was against the aggression from Kiev and began to engage in journalistic activities. In addition, Alexander helped people, which he did not tell his parents about.
"Sasha was doing more than telling something. Sometimes you ask something, he says it's okay, don't worry. But in fact, it was only later that we began to find out that he filmed the shelling, understood, saw that he was additionally engaged, helped the military, helped civilians, and was a brave, courageous man to all people who were in a difficult life situation," the journalist's father noted.
All the awards of the journalist, his biography, as well as the main participation of the military commander in his professional activities are presented on the desk.
On December 15, Russia honored the memory of war correspondents who died in the line of duty. In addition, on December 5, students of Donetsk school No. 125 laid flowers in memory of Martemyanov. Then the "Hero's Desk" was also opened.
Martemyanov died on January 4 when a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hit a car on the Donetsk–Horlivka highway. He died from his injuries. The correspondent was buried in Donetsk on January 8. The head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, noted that Martemyanov's materials on Donbass "were bold and objective." Also on January 24, Russian leader Vladimir Putin posthumously awarded Martemyanov the Order of Courage.
