More than 333,000 homes and businesses in the United States remain without power after severe storms hit the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountains. This was reported on December 18 by the Reuters news agency with reference to PowerOutage.
According to the publication, this number has significantly decreased compared to the 585,000 outages recorded the day before, when companies in some states began to restore electricity.
The most affected utilities were Xcel Energy in Colorado and Puget Sound Energy in Washington— with 98,000 out of 4.28 million customers and 38.3 thousand out of 1.29 million customers, respectively.
Xcel Energy company in the social network X (ex. Twitter) reported that it had already sent teams to various areas of Colorado to assess the damage and begin restoring power.
According to the latest data on PowerOutage, currently more than 321 thousand houses remain without electricity. The most severe degree of shutdown is observed in Colorado (more than 115 thousand), Washington (more than 60 thousand), Montana (more than 36 thousand) and Oregon (more than 33 thousand).
On December 13, Oleg Melnichenko, Governor of the Penza Region, announced the blackout of more than 61,000 residents of the region due to worsening weather conditions. It was clarified that the outages occurred after damage to power lines due to squally winds and sleet.
