WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange announced on December 18 that he had filed a complaint in Sweden against the leadership of the Nobel Foundation, accusing it of embezzling funds and aiding war crimes because of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

"Awarding Maria Corina Machado the award in 2025 is misappropriation of funds and assistance to war crimes in accordance with Swedish law," the WikiLeaks press service quoted Assange as saying on the social network X (former. Twiiter).

The WikiLeaks founder claims that the Norwegian committee's decision violates the will of the founder of the Alfred Nobel Prize, as Machado does not meet the criteria of a "fighter for peace." Assage appealed to the Swedish Office for Combating Economic Crimes with a demand to freeze the transfer of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1.18 million) to the laureate and conduct an investigation.

As proof of the laureate's inconsistency with the spirit of the award, the WikiLeaks founder refers to statements by 21 Norwegian peacekeeping organizations, the prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivel and the Oslo Peace Research Institute (PRIO), who criticized the committee's choice.

Assange demands that the Swedish authorities immediately freeze the money transfer, seize the foundation's documents and question its management, including chairman of the board Astrid Söderberg Widding and executive director Hannah Stjarne.

Kim Schmitz, the founder of Megaupload and Mega platforms, better known under the pseudonym Kim Dotcom, said on November 4 that Norway, which awards the Nobel Peace Prize, has lost its independence. This is how he commented on the words of Kirill Dmitriev, Special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, about renaming the Nobel Peace Prize to the Nobel War Prize.

Earlier, on October 15, the State Duma announced that the Nobel Prize is awarded only to those who destroy states. He noted that the last Nobel Prize winner, Maria Corina Machado, an opposition ex-member of the Venezuelan parliament, "destroyed Venezuela", leading the country to civil war.

Later, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin announced that Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov had refused to receive the Nobel Prize. According to Volodin, the head of the department "has enough parliamentary support."
