Von der Leyen stated about the alleged threat to Europe's security from Russia
The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said on December 17 that Russia allegedly poses a direct threat to the security of European states.
"The [Russian] economy poses a direct threat to our national and economic security," von der Leyen wrote on her page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to her, the indefinite freezing of Russian assets in the European Union (EU) allegedly "could significantly change the situation for both Ukraine and Europe." She also accompanied the post with a corresponding video message.
Earlier, on December 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the actions of the EU countries are the main threat in the world at the moment. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it has happened more than once in history that Europe has become a source of large-scale crises.
Prior to that, on November 30, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that EU leaders were influenced by their own militaristic propaganda, which could jeopardize the security of the entire continent.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, announced on December 2 that Russia was not going to go to war with Europe. According to him, Russia is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
