- The Security Council discussed threats from quantum technologies for information security
The Committee on Information Security Issues of the Scientific Expert Council of the Security Council of the Russian Federation discussed the threats to Russia's information security related to the development of quantum technologies. This was reported to Izvestia on December 17 by the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
"It is noted that the used and promising Russian cryptographic algorithms currently allow for guaranteed durability," the report says.
At the same time, it was pointed out that the development of computer attacks using quantum computing requires further fundamental and applied scientific research to improve information security methods.
The committee members highlighted quantum communication technologies and quantum key distribution as one of the promising areas of practical implementation of quantum technologies for security.
It is recommended that interested federal executive authorities, in cooperation with scientific and production organizations, conduct comprehensive scientific and experimental research on the creation and implementation of information security tools using quantum technologies.
The day before, the Ministry of Internal Affairs named the most common methods of fraud by fraudsters in 2025. The most common methods of deception are the threat of criminal prosecution for allegedly financing terrorism and offering "quick earnings." The top 5 methods also include fictitious notifications about inspections of engineering systems, threats of accidents, tax debts and errors in declarations. Completing the ranking are offers of remote part-time work, reports of problems with a SIM card, the sale of non-existent goods and promises of social benefits on behalf of government agencies.
