Lavrov noted a large number of speculations to disrupt the settlement in Ukraine.
Russia notes a sharp increase in the number of speculations and information stuffing around the topic of Ukraine, the purpose of which is to prolong the conflict and disrupt diplomatic efforts to resolve it. This was announced on December 11 by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at the round table of ambassadors.
"We are meeting now, when assessments are being made several times a day in the media, which contribute to new developments...> expectations. The expectation of an approaching diplomatic denouement of the conflict over Ukraine...> There is a lot of speculation, all kinds of destructive stuffing, fakes," he said.
According to the diplomat, a significant part of such information operations originate from the West and are aimed at complicating the search for a negotiated solution. Lavrov stressed that Russia has consistently demanded the development of a package agreement on a lasting, sustainable and long-term peace with guarantees for the security of all parties.
The Foreign Minister recalled that European states avoid discussing the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis. According to him, the EU is limited to calls for a cease—fire, mainly in order to "take a breath" and continue supporting the Kiev regime.
Lavrov stressed that this approach only prolongs the conflict, while the West itself is actively trying to use the Ukrainian issue to distract the attention of the international community from the Palestinian problem.
The minister confirmed that the current contacts between Moscow and Washington are dedicated specifically to the search for a sustainable settlement, and not a temporary respite. He also noted that US President Donald Trump shows a sincere desire for a political and diplomatic solution to the conflict.
On December 9, in an interview with Politico, Trump called on the head of the Kiev regime to pull himself together and start accepting proposals for resolving the conflict, as Ukraine is being defeated on the battlefield. The US President also stressed that Russia has a much stronger negotiating position compared to the Ukrainian side.
Later, on December 10, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmytruk said that Ukraine could not allow the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, to disrupt peace initiatives that world leaders were working on. According to him, for Kiev, only peaceful coexistence with Moscow can ensure prosperity and stability in the country.
