Researchers have found that flavanols, special substances found in chocolate, cocoa and berries, can stimulate brain function and improve short—term memory. This was reported in the journal Science Direct.

Flavanols are natural compounds that give chocolate its bitter taste. In a new experiment, scientists gave mice a single dose of flavanols, and after a short time, the animals became more active and remembered new objects better. In addition, flavanols stimulated the body's stress systems, increasing the levels of adrenaline and other hormones responsible for alertness and attentiveness.

As the scientists noted, flavanols also helped the body to respond better to signals from the stomach and intestines. That is, chocolate food is not only delicious, but also directly affects the functioning of the nervous system, helping to maintain the balance of the body.

The researchers noted that such properties of chocolate can be useful for maintaining mental abilities and vivacity. They emphasized that regular moderate consumption of foods with flavanols, such as dark chocolate, can support brain function and improve mood.

CBT therapist (specialist in cognitive behavioral therapy), psychologist Helen Khachatryan said on October 12 that chocolate can be an effective tool for regulating emotions, as this delicacy reduces stress and improves mood, which is especially important in the autumn period.
