Less than half of the countries voted for the draft UNGA resolution on Ukrainian children.

The UN General Assembly has adopted an anti-Russian resolution called "The Return of Ukrainian children," which has no legal force, but has sharply criticized Russia, which called the document politicized. This was reported by RIA Novosti on December 4.

It is specified that 12 countries voted against the document, including Russia, Belarus, Cuba and Iran. 57 States abstained, including Brazil, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. 91 countries supported the resolution.

The Russian mission to the United Nations called this document politicized and said that it distorts the real picture of events. Maria Zabolotskaya, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, stressed that the title of the resolution, "The return of Ukrainian children," raises the question of why attention is being paid only to children of Ukrainian origin, ignoring the rights of Russian children who lose touch with their relatives. She also expressed doubt about the figure of 20 thousand. allegedly deported children, which, according to her, is not supported by documents or requests from parents.

"To verify the politicized nature of the text, just look at its title - "The Return of Ukrainian Children." The question arises: only Ukrainian ones? And what should happen to Russian children who have lost touch with their relatives? Should their rights and interests be ignored?" she said.

Zabolotskaya added that the purpose of the resolution is not to help children, but to promote a narrative about Russia's alleged deportation. She assured that there was no evidence of such mass movements of children in Russia and that this information was not supported by either lists or certificates of relatives.

Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova announced on August 21 that Russia, through Qatar's mediation, had handed over three Ukrainian children to their families. It was clarified that assistance was also provided to an adult man with a disability to move to Ukraine.
